About Split

The CROYA Yacht Charter Show is just one of the many reasons to visit this enchanting city. The city’s most iconic landmark is Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century BC, the palace forms about half of Split’s old town and is a maze of narrow streets filled with historical buildings, shops, and cafes. Nearby, St. Domnius’ Cathedral, originally Diocletian’s mausoleum, offers a Romanesque bell tower with stunning views of the city and the Adriatic Sea. Peristyle Square, located within the palace, is a popular gathering spot, especially in the evening, and often hosts live music and cultural events.

Beyond its historical significance, Split is renowned for its natural beauty. Marjan Hill, a forested area with hiking and cycling trails, provides panoramic views of the city and sea, along with small chapels and lookout points. Split’s beaches, such as Bačvice Beach, are perfect for swimming and playing Picigin, a local water sport. The city’s vibrant atmosphere can be felt along the Riva Promenade, a lively waterfront area, perfect for a leisurely stroll, people-watching, and enjoying drinks at the numerous cafes and bars. The Green Market (Pazar) near the eastern gate of Diocletian’s Palace is bustling with vendors selling fresh produce, local delicacies, and souvenirs.

Food lovers will delight in Dalmatian cuisine, with dishes such as fresh seafood, Pasticada (a traditional beef stew), and local wines offered in many restaurants with alfresco dining and beautiful views.

Split also serves as a gateway to the stunning Dalmatian islands, including Hvar, Brac, and Vis. Ferries and boat tours provide easy access to these beautiful destinations. Additionally, day trips to nearby historical sites like Trogir, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the ancient city of Salona, are highly recommended.
